Ceremony

  • 1.Purification Ceremony

    A ceremony to purify the soul and body of impurities in preparation for the invocation of the deities.

  • 2.Address to Deities

    The priest recites a norito to the deities to announce the marriage.

  • 3.Exchange of Sacred Cups

    Ceremony where the bride and groom exchange sacred sake (omiki)

  • 4.Exchange of Rings

    The bride and groom make vows of eternal love, and exchange rings.

  • 5.Reading of Vows

    The bride and groom read out their vows.
    (The groom reads the vows; the bride reads out her name).

  • 6.Tamagushi Offerings

    Tamagushi (saksaki branches decorated with cotton/paper strips) are offered to the gods.
    (The bride and groom make their offerings first, followed by the go-betweens and the family representatives).

  • 7.Family Toast

    Relatives from both families drink omiki to pray for the flourishing of both families.

Requests

Please make requests by phone call first, in order to arrange a date. The applicant will then be asked to come to Izumi Shrine and fill out a form to recieve official confirmation.

FAQs

How long does the ceremony take?
The ceremony will take approximately 30 minutes.
Is there a limit to the number of attendees?
The maximum number of attendees is 15 on the bride's side, and 15 on the groom's side (30 in total).
Tell me more about the ceremony fee.
Please pay the ceremony fee on the day of the event. Fees start at 50,000 JPY.
What should I wear on the day?
Please come to the shrine in wedding attire.
Is there a waiting room?
There is a Japanese-style room that can be used as a waiting room before the ceremony (not suitable for changing/preparation).
Is there a car park?
We can provide a temporary car park for those arriving by car (the number of spaces is limited).
Is photography permitted?
Photography is permitted in the grounds if an application is made.
We would like to hold a wedding reception, can you help?
