About Higo Tsubaki
Higo Tsubaki is admired not only in Japan but around the world as a distinguished camellia variety, combining vivid beauty with refined elegance.
It is also highly valued as a potted plant suitable for indoor appreciation.
The flowers are typically single-petaled with distinctive plum-blossom-shaped stamens.
Most varieties have five to six petals, though semi-double varieties such as Banko and Shokko Nishiki also exist.
In older varieties, the stamens are often arranged to one side, forming what is known as a “ring-centered” style.
Varieties with fully developed, well-balanced stamens are considered particularly superior.
There are approximately 124 varieties in colors ranging from deep red and white to pale pink and variegated patterns.
The blooming season extends from February to April.
